Cain, James 1888 - 1956

Clayton County Register, 26 July 1956.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, July 25, for James Cain, 67, who died at Xavier hospital, Dubuque, last Monday. Services were conducted from McTaggart's chapel at 9:30 o'clock to St. Joseph's Catholic church with the Rev. Cletus J. Hawes officiating.

Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.

Cain was born in Elkader, October 18, 1888, and spent his entire life in this community. He was a son of Michael and Louise Losch Cain. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Delia Ehrhardt, Elkader, four nieces and four nephews.

During his younger days Cain was recognized for his ability on the baseball diamond. He was credited with being about the best shortstop in northeast Iowa during the 1920s and eary 30s.

Pallbearers were: Steve Donlon, Charles Erickson, Valmah Gossman, Mike Hurley, Ed Steffen and Jerry Poull.
