Francis (Frank) Xavier Kainz, son of John and Josephine Kainz was born July 13, 1884 in Vienna, Austria and died June 04 at Prairie du Chien General Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis.
In 1892 he came to the United States with his parents, from Austria. They settled in Volga township, Clayton County, Iowa, 9 miles east of Elkader where Mr. Kainz spent the rest of his life farming in this community, moving to his present home in 1907.
In 1907, he was united in marriage to Stella Berns. They were the parents of two daughters, Edna and Vera. Mrs. Kainz died in 1946.
In 1949 he was united in marriage to Delores Handke at the St. Joseph's Rectory at Elkader.
Mr. Kainz was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Elkader.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and daughter, Edna Kainz Wilson.
He is survived by his wife Dolores, daughter, Vera of Garber, three sons, Francis X. Jr., Mark A., John L., and a foster son Virgil and one sister Mrs. Rose Funk of Guttenberg.
Services were held Wednesday, June 06, from the Witt Chapel at 9:00 a.m., and the St. Joseph's Church at 9:30 a.m. with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. D. A. Gorman and the Rev. C. Hawes officiating. Burial was in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Earl Matt, Lawrence Downey, Virgil Uriell, Haldean Reimer, Rudy Kainz, and Realto Berns.
Relatives from Guttenberg, Dyersville, Garnavillo, Garber, Elkport, Monona, Postville, Clayton and Strawberry POint attended the funeral.
