MONONA: Funeral services for Edward Allert, 84, were held Friday, May 18, at 1:45 from the Schultz funeral home and at 2 o'clock at the Pilgrim Evangelical United Brethren church. The Rev. A. W. Ebert officiated. He was assisted by the Rev. E. Wayne Hilmer.
Edward William Allert, the son of Herman and Anna Thomas Allert, was born April 28, 1872, at Waupeton, Iowa, and died Wednesday, May 16, at the Postville hospital, where he had been a patient for several days because of a fractured hip.
He was married to Clara Schiff on April 07, 1897, at Monona. The couple farmed near Garnavillo and northwest of Monona until retiring to town in 1930.
Survivors are his wife, one son, Earl, both of Monona; three brothers, George of Elkader, Herman and Carl of McGregor; one sister, Tillie Allert of McGregor, and three grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one son, Orville, who died in 1922. Also one brother, W. F. Allert, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Witter.
Honorary pallbearers were: John Gilster, Harley Rittenhouse, Ben Jarms and William Hubascher.
Active pallbearers were: Lloyd Bacon, Fred Hass, Willis Bernhardt, Grover Miller, Page Dull and A. F. Kaiser.
Burial was in the City cemetery.
