Mrs. Stella Wathen was born Stella Walters at Elkport on July 08, 1879, a daughter of Alex and Elizabeth Walters. She died at Xavier hospital, Dubuque, January 22, 1956, following a two weeks' illness of acute nephritis.

On April 17, 1901, at Elkport, she was united in marriage to Bert Wathen. She spent her entire life in the Elkport and Garber communities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one daughter, Helen.

Mrs. Wathen is survived by one daughter, Ruth Covert of Davenport; a son, Russell, of Garber; two grandchildren, Mrs. Kenneth Knoke of Davenport; and Thor Fisko Jr. of Elkader; and one great-grandchild, Martha Ruth Fisko; three brothers, Ray and William Walters of Strawberry Point and Charles Walters of Portland, Ore.

Funeral services were held at St. John's E and R church at Garber Wednesday, January 25. The Rev. G. H. Hesse officiated. Burial was in mount Harmony cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Leo Flaherty, Leonard Moser, Anton Smith, Cyril Vorwald, Oscar Cole and Herbert Thein.
