Fred William Benzing, son of Conrad Benzing and his wife Louisa Tangeman Benzing, was born March 09, 1883, at Farmersburg, Iowa. After he grew to manhood he farmed in this community until 1953.

On March 06, 1938, he became a member of the Lutheran church when he was baptized and confirmed.

In October, 1953, Mr. Benzing was stricken with a slight stroke. At first he was taken to the McGregor hospital, and later he was taken to the Aasa Haugen home near Decorah where he spent the most of the remaining days of his life.

On September 18, 1955, he suffered a heart attack and was taken to the Decorah hospital, and later to the Aswegan nursing home where he died as the result of another heart attack on January 06, 1956. He had attained the age of 72 years, 9 months and 27 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers. Survivors are one sister, Minnie Johnson of Bentonville, Ark., and one brother, Gust, of Calmar.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 09, 1956, at 1:30 p.m. at the Schultz funeral home of Monona with the Rev. R. H. Steege in charge. Burial was at the Farmersburg-Wagner cemetery.
