A. J. Gebhart of Monona died suddenly of a heart attack Monday night, Sept. 29, at 11:45. He was in good health when he retired Monday evening.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Holy Name Society, and the Knights of Columbus.
Funeral mass was at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 02, with burial in St. Patrick's cemetery, the Rev. William Menster officiating.
Mr. Gebhart was born August 02, 1903, in Calumet County, Chilton, Wis., and received his education in St. Charles Borromeo school, Charlesburg, Wis. On Oct. 15, 1932, he was married to Ruby Loebsack, who survives. Also surviving are one stepson, Keith Loebsack, and two grandchildren, Kirk and Kim Loebsack of Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Matt, St. Olaf, and Mary T. Gebhart, Chilton, Wis.; and five brothers, Charles, Otto, Julius, Henry and Bernard, all of Chilton, Wis. His parents, Andrew and Anna Gebhart, preceded him in death.
He was well known in this community for spraying, white-washing and painting. Six weeks ago he accepted the job of janitor at St. Patrick's church parish.
Relatives from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Otto Gebhart, Charles, Julius, Henry, Bernard and Mary T. Gebhart, all of Chilton, Wis.; Carl Gebhart, Kiel, Wis.; John and Wallace Gebhart, Charlesburg, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene C. Stubbe, Davenport; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Frye, Maquoketa; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reicher and daughter, Dyersville; Mrs. Irene Hall and family, Oelwein; and relatives and friends from Garnavillo, Elkader and Postville.
