Irvin Orlan Schoien, only son of Herman and Alma Torkelson Schoien, was born July 18, 1918, in Clayton county. He died January 10, 1958, at the age of 39.

As an infant he was baptized in the Highland Lutheran church and spoke his confirmation vows in Our Savior's Lutheran church at Lansing. He received his grade school education in Monona and a rural school. He attended the Lansing high school until the family moved to their present home, the former home of the Torkelson family. A year later he reentered school and was graduated from the Elgin high school with the class of 1937. He was preceded in death by his father, who died in 1946. He is survived by his mother, three sisters, Corinne, Arlene and Mrs. Floyd Reavis, his brother-in-law, a niece, a nephew and a large number of other relatives.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 13, 1958, at the Muehlethaler funeral home and at Highland Lutheran church with the Rev. Dennis A. Stutrud officiating.

Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Leonard Moore, Harril Larson, Orvald Larson, Louie Gregerson, Roy Halvorson, and Glenn Larson.

Besides those from the local community were relatives and friends attending from Wadena, Fairbank, West Union, Clermont, Decorah, Postville, Hawkeye, Lansing, Garnavillo, Guttenberg, St. Olaf, Farmersburg, Dundee, and Cedar Rapids.
