Services for George W. Kahlbaum were held at the family home in Read township at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Nov. 16 and at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church in Clayton Center at 2 p.m. The Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiated. Burial was in the new cemetery at Clayton Center.

Mr. Kahlbaum had been in failing health for several months and died at his home Thursday, November 13, 1952. Death was due to Bright's disease and complications.

George Kahlbaum was born at Farmersburg, Iowa, January 30, 1891, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Kahlbaum. He received his education in the rural schools near his home. He was baptized at Zion's Evangelical and Lutheran church in Clayton Center, February 17, 1891 and was confirmed in that church on March 27, 1904 by the late Rev. F. W. Seifert.

At the age of one year he moved with his parents to the present Louis Glawe farm in Read township. On January 19, 1916 he was united in marriage to Miss Mahalie Glawe.

After their marriage they farmed in Read township. Then moved to Elkader where they lived for ten years. The past eight years they have lived on the Elmer Glawe farm. Along with farming Mr. Kahlbaum was caretaker of the Clayton Center cemeteries. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical and Lutheran church, also a member of the church council and a former vice-president and treasurer of the church brotherhood.

He is survived by his wife and five sisters, namely: Mrs. George (Effie) Kruse, Mrs. Louis (Emma) Glawe, Mrs. Hugo (Malahie) Taake, Mrs. Carl (Hattie) Kalpien, Mrs. Lester (Leona) Vogt, also a number of nieces and nephews. His father preceded hm in death in 1943 and his mother in 1951.

Pallbearers were: Erwin Breitsprecher, Floyd Leuchtenmacher, Otto Beyer, Donald Hansel, Irvin Huebner, Harley Kalke.

Relatives from a distance who attended the services were: Mrs. Maurice Whitman, Marion: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schafer, Miss Emma Shafer, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schafer, Mr. and Mrs. George Borgess, all of Oelwein; Mrs. Bertha Wiefe, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Suckow and Miss Emma Suckow, Postville.
