Arthur Fredrick Buckman, Elkader, died suddenly at his home at 7:45 a.m. Sunday of a heart attack.

Mr. Buckman was born April 14, 1895 in Read township the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Buckman. He received his education in the rural schools of Read township. He farmed in that township until 1943 when he retired and moved to Elkader.

On Sept. 01, 1925 at Elkader, Mr. Buckman was married to Miss Frances Cords by the Rev. C. H. Franke. Two children, Mrs. Norbert Walz, St. Olaf, and Don Buckman, at home, were born to the couple.

Mr. Buckman was president of the Elkader Co-operative for a number of years and was past president of the Farmers Telephone company. He served as treasurer of the Hanover school since 1920. He was active in the Triple A from its beginning.

He was baptized and confirmed at the Zion church of Clayton Center, Iowa, and was a member of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church of Elkader.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1920 and his mother in 1940, a brother August in 1923, and a sister Ella in 1934. Surviving besides his wife and children and a granddaughter, one brother Lorenzo, two sisters, Mrs. August Taake and Mrs. George Tieden, all of Elkader.

Services were held from Witt's Funeral Home Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 1:30 and the Peace church at 2 p.m. Burial was at Garnavillo.
