Funeral services for Mrs. Lyle Schmidt, Rockford, Ill., were held at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. Louise Henkes, in Monona, at 1:30 o'clock Friday, Sept. 12, and at the Lutheran church in Farmersburg at 2 p.m. Burial was at Monona.
Mrs. Schmidt was taken sick about three wees ago and was taken to the Swedish American hospital in Rockford, Ill. For a time she seemed to respond to treatment but on Monday, Sept. 08, her condition became serious. She died the following day, Tuesday, Sept. 09, at the age of 21 years, 10 months and 28 days.
Jeanette Rolland was born in Wagner township, Clayton county, Iowa, Oct. 11, 1930, the daughter of Mrs. Alberta Rolland, nee Henkes. She was christened on May 16, 1937, by the Rev. H. M. Adix. Following religious instruction she was confirmed and received membership in St. John's Lutheran church at Farmersburg, and was a member of the Luther League.
After completing eighth grade in the rural school, she entered the Farmersburg high school and was graduated May 19, 1949, being valedictorian of her class. Following graduation she worked as secretary in the county treasurer's office at Elkader, and later as secretary to Atty. L. J. Ehrhardt.
On March 15, 1952, She was united in marriage to Lyle Schmidt. They made their home in Rockford, Ill.
She is survived by her husband, Lyle Schmidt, her mother, Mrs. Alberta Rolland, her grandmother, Mrs. Louise Henkes, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Her grandfather and an aunt preceded her in death.
Flower girls were Mrs. Robert Frye, Miss Betty Monroe, Miss Bonnie Entwisle, Mrs. Eugene Forbes.
Pallbearers were: Donald Sass, Lindall Schievelbein, Adolph Hanson Jr., Valmah Gossman, Lloyd Lenth, Robert Frye, William Schmidt, Eugene Forbes.
