Mrs. Peter DeWitte, 77, died at University hospital in Iowa City at 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, following a brief illness. She was born in Eijzendyke, Holland, the daughter of Charles and Melina Verstroats Verbeke. She was married to Peter DeWitte in Holland on May 07, 1898, and came to this country in 1899 with her husband and son Henry. They settled first in Illinois, moving soon thereafter to Strawberry Point where they have lived ever since.

Survivors are her two sons, Henry, Madison, Wis., and Elon, Arlington, and five daughters: Mrs. Merrill Millard (Emma), McPherson, Kan.; Mrs. Frank O'Brien (Mary), Elkader; Mrs. George Rix (Clara), Davenport; Mrs. Ernest Eden (Lucy), and Mrs. Bernard Chapman (Julia), Arlington. There are 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, two sisters in Belgium and one sister in Holland, and her husband of Strawberry Point. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, five sisters, one son, one daughter and one grandson.

Funeral services were held Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic church in Strawberry Point with the Rev. James K. Cassidy officiating. Burial was at St. Mary's cemetery in Strawberry Point.
