DIED - At Webster Hospital, Memphis, Tenn., Aug 23d, of Chronic Diarrhea, Robert Pettyes [sic], formerly of the American House, McGregor.

The deceased was only 21 years old; a lively, sensible young man. His sister, Miss Mattie Pettys [sic], received a very kind letter from John T. Henderson, Ward Master of the Hospital, announcing the sad intelligence.

Note: Robert Pettis' served in Co. G, 21st IA Inf. He is buried in Memphis Nat'l Cemetery. See his entry in the Civil War Honor Roll on this website:
