Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Doeppke, 85, were held at the Oelke funeral home in Elkader at 1:30 o'clock Sunday, Nov. 04, and at Our Redeemer Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. H. H. Frohn officiated. Burial was in the Clayton Center cemetery.
Mrs. Doeppke died at Forest Park, Ill., Thursday, Nov. 01. She had been ill for the past four and a half weeks. Death was due to a heart condition.
Bertha Augusta Heller was born at Alt Wurrow, Germany, March 18, 1866, the daughter of August and Wilhelmina Haas Heller. On Nov. 01, 1887, at Alt Schlage, Germany, she was married to Julius Doeppke. In 1914 they came to this country and settled in Chicago, moving to Clayton Center, Clayton county, Iowa, in 1915, where they farmed until Mr. Doeppke's death in 1938. In 1948 Mrs. Doeppke went to Forest Park, Ill., where she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Martha Rausch.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran church, Forest Park, Ill.
She is survived by six sons and six daughters: Albert, Farmersburg; Otto, Clayton Center; Mrs. Marie Jacobs and William Doeppke, Elkader; Mrs. Bertha Hahn and Emil Doeppke, Cicero, Ill.; Mrs. Anna Kinney and Helmuth Doeppke, Monona; Mrs. Helen Searcy, Elmwood Park, Ill.; Frank Doeppke, Monona; Mrs. Helen Searcy, Westchester, Ill.; Mrs. Martha Rausch, Forest Park, Ill. One brother, Carl Heller, Kewanee, Ill. 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren also survive.
Pallbearers were Paul Scheffert, Fred Miller, Gerald Doeppke, Paul Doeppke, Peter Doeppke and Vernon Knapp.
