Funeral services for Mrs. Henrietta D. Kahlbaum, 86, were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at the family residence and at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran church at Clayton Center. The Rev. J. H. Zerhusen, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Kahlbaum died suddenly at her home in Elkader on Monday of a heart attack.

Henrietta Dorothea Charlotta Pahlas was born May 23, 1865, in Farmersburg township, Clayton county, Iowa, the daughter of George and Fredericke Pahlas. She received her education in the rural schools near her home.

On April 04, 1890, at the Zion Evangelical and Lutheran church at Clayton Center she was united in marriage to William Kahlbaum. They farmed in Read township on the farm now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Louis Glawe until 1918 when they retired and moved to Elkader. Her husband died in June, 1943. Since that time she has remained in her home in Elkader with her daughter, Mrs. Mahalie Taake.

Mrs. Kahlbaum was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church in Clayton Center and of the Ladies Aid of that church.

She is survived by one son and five daughters, namely: George Kahlbaum, Mrs. George (Effie) Kruse, Mrs. Louis (Emma) Glawe, Mrs. Hugo (Mahalie) Taake, Mrs. Carl (Hattie) Kelpien, Mrs. Lester (Leona) Vogt, all of Elkader, also six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death besides her husband was a sister, Mrs. Herman (Amelia) Mueller, who died in 1948.

Pallbearers were: Arno Funk, Pete Thein, Elmer Breitsprecher, Charles Gottschalk, Melvin Ahrens, and Fred Eggimann.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Miss LaDean Taake, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Valmah Glawe, Eagle Grove; Mr. and Mrs. LaVern Glawe and family, Webster City; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Wittman, Marion; Mr. and Mrs. George Borchers and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schaefer, Oelwein; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schaefer and Emma Schaefer, Fayette; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Thompson, Monona; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Manthie and Edward, Olivia, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Mueller, Garnavillo; and Mrs. Ida Vullgraf, Farmersburg.
