Funeral services were held for Cpl. Paul N. Kafer, formerly of Garnavillo, from the Tuecke funeral home to St. Joseph's church at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18.

The military rites for Corporal Kafer were conducted by a unit of the Guttenberg American Legion. Burial was in the St. Michael's cemetery near Elkport.

Paul N. Kafer was born near Elkport March 03, 1929, the son of Mrs. Wm. Kafer and the late Wm. Kafer. He graduated from the St. Joseph school at Garnavillo. After enlisting in the armed services in March, 1947, he went to Korea immediately following his training.

Corporal Kafer was hospitalized November, 1950, resulting from frozen limbs, and again in December after receiving four gunshot wounds in his hands. In February Kafer was fatally wounded while fighting on the front lines.
