Funeral services for Thor O. Thorsgaard were held from the Witt funeral chapel at 1:30 o'clock on Wednesday to the Norway Lutheran church at 2 p.m., the Rev. S. J. Strandjord officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Thorsgaard died at the home of his son, William, in Volga City, Sunday, Sept. 09, 1951, following a two and one-half years illness of cancer. He had reached the age of 66 years, two months and twenty-two days at the time of his death.
Thor Olson Thorsgaard was born in Rollag, Norway, June 17, 1885, the son of Ole and Gurnie Thorsgaard. On May 2, 1908, he landed in America. He first came to St. Olaf, Iowa, and later lived in North Dakota, Minnesota, and other parts of Iowa. He was a carpenter by trade.
On June 17, 1914, at Elkader, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Isabel Bergan, who survives him.
In 1918 he made a return visit to Norway.
Surviving besides his wife, are a daughter and two sons: Mrs. Gunda Dayton, Little Bear, Wyo.; William Thorsgaard, Volga, and Elmer Thorsgaard, Rockford, Ill.; one brother, Nels Kirkjordon, Veggle, Norway, also six grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Vernie Olson, Oscar Andreae, Ben Butikofer, Lester Butikofer, Leslie Halverson, and Thomas Peterson.
