Funeral services for Fred C. Heiden were held from the Oelke funeral home, Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 1:30 o'clock and at the Reace Evangelical and Reformed church at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was in the east side cemetery.
Mr. Heiden suffered a stroke about two and a half years ago and has since been confined to his bed. Death came early Friday morning, Sept. 7, 1951.
Fred C. Heiden was born in Boardman township, October 18, 1873, the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Heiden. He received his education in the rural schools of Read township. In the year 1900, he was united in marriage to Miss Julia Wareham. They went to housekeeping on the Heiden farm, six miles east of Elkader, where they lived until 1945, when they retired and moved to Elkader. He had reached the age of 77 years 10 months and 21 days at the time of his death. He was a member of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church.
He is survived by his wife and eight children, namely: Fred C. Heiden Jr., Mrs. Carl (Geneva) Roeder, Mrs. Clarence (Rosalia) Bauer, Ernie Heiden, and Ray Heiden, all of Elkader; Mrs. Floyd (Laura) Weddle, Mexico City, Mexico, Leo Heiden, Dubuque; Mrs. Floyd (Viola) Baker, Torrance, Calif.; also two brothers and five sisters, Barney Heiden, Watertown, S. Dakota; William Heiden, Ottumwa, Ia.; Mrs. Ella Seige and Mrs. Christina Friedlein, both of Dubuque; Mrs. Mary Walters, Duluth, Minn.; Mrs. Elsie Walter, Kirkland, Ill.; Mrs. Alma Wiles, Portland, Ore.; also seven great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Sarah) Lau preceded him in death in 1931.
Pallbearers were: Alto Berns, Frank Scheffert, Helmuth Latteyer, William Moore, Gerald Feeney and Fred Kuehl.
