Services for Edward J. Keppler, 29, were held Monday, July 01, at 9:30 o'clock at St. Patrick's church. The Rev. John Peters officiated.

He was born Nov. 19, 1927, a son of Joe and Tillie (Havlicek) Keppler at Monona, and died on June 27, at the Veterans hospital in Iowa City where he had been a patient for ten days. He had been in failing health for the past year.

Mr. Keppler attended St. Patrick's school and graduated from Monona high school. He enlisted in the navy Dec. 06, 1944. He received his training at Great Lakes, Illinois, Naval Training Center and was sent to Okinawa and Japan. He served as coxswain in the Seabees. He was released from service in July 1946.

He was awarded the Victory medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign medal, American Area Campaign medal, and the Philippine Liberation ribbon.

Survivors include his parents, two brothers, Thomas of Monona, Eugene of Dubuque, one half-brother, Joseph of Glendale, Calif., and two nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were: Walter Matt, Ray and Tom Lestina, Marlyn Henderson, Leslie Sherbonda, Dewey Hensel, Edward Bohnek and Dick Krippene.

Burial was in St. Patrick's cemetery with military rites conducted at the grave by the Leslie H. Smith Post No. 519 of the American Legion.
