Sigmund Wilhelm Otdoerfer was born near Strawberry Point June 16, 1885, the son of George and Wilhelmina Nodurft Otdoerfer. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the St. Sebald Lutheran church near Strawberry Point, and on Feb. 18, 1909, was married to Wilhelmina Baumgartner in the same church. The couple farmed in the vicinity their entire married lives. Mr. Otdoerfer always maintained a large orchard and usually had apples and other furit to sell.
For many years Mr. Otdoerfer had been troubled with an injured leg and recently the leg was amputated. He had returned to his home Thursday and died there Sunday evening, June 16, on his 72nd birthday.
The couple had five children, all of whom survive, along with Mrs. Otdoerfer. The children are: Mrs. Lloyd (Lydia) Kauffman, Calmar; Mrs. Stanley (Clara) Everitt, and Harold, George and Albert Otdoerfer, all of Strawberry Point. There are also nine grandchildren. One brother, Herman Otdoerfer of Strawberry Point, and three sisters, Mrs. August Druecker of Strawberry Point, Mrs. John Fredrick of Arlington and Mrs. Arthur Manson of Independence, also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and a granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at the St. Sebald Lutheran church Wednesday, June 19, with the Rev. H. Cronrath conducting the services. Burial was in the St. Sebald cemetery with the Gill funeral service making the arrangements.
