Emma Clara Blaha Lenth, wife of L. C. Lenth, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Blaha and was born Aug. 17, 1875, in Giard township, Clayton county, Iowa, and died at her home in Elkader of a heart attack Friday morning, Dec. 28, at the age of 81 years, four months and 11 days.
Mrs. Lenth spent her childhood in Monona and graduated from the schools in Monona. For eight years she taught school in Giard township.
She was married to L. C. Lenth at Monona on Sept. 24, 1901. One daughter, Marie, was born to this union.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Lenth farmed for six years east of Monona. From 1907 until 1914 they farmed in Canada and then returned to Elkader. In 1930 they again went on their farm east of Elkader, where they farmed until 1936. Since 1936 they have resided in Elkader.
Mrs. Lenth enjoyed good health for a person of her age until the time of her death. She was a member of the Congregational Christian church and of the Ladies Guild.
Mr. and Mrs. Lenth were privileged to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary last September.
Surviving are her husband and her daughter, Mrs. Marie Wahls. Her parents, a sister and a brother preceded her in death.
Services were held at the Congregational Christian church Sunday afternoon, Dec. 30, at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lee Lenth, Carl Lenth, Roy Haberichter, Earl Lenth, Edison Lenth, Dean Kleckner and Rex Kleckner.
