Clayton County Register, 16 Apr. 1941.

FAIRVIEW: Margaret Elizabeth Brown was born to James and Jane Brown at their farm home two miles north of Colesburg, Iowa, on November 15, 1869. Her childhood days were passed largely in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Flenniken. She attended school in the Brown school house which used to stand in that neighborhood. Upon the death of her mother in 1888 she left the home of her aunt and returned to the parental home to keep house for her father.

On the sixth of April in 1894 she was united in marriage with Mr. Silas J. Beddow who taught the district school. They have not lived in this community very much of the time since they were married as Mr. Beddow's teaching took him to other places. Twice they have gone to South Dakota, the first time they stayed 22 years and the next time they stayed five years. They returned to Colesburg in 1933 and have resided here since then.

As a child Mrs. Beddow attended church and Sunday school at Fairview, and after she left here it was her custom to find a church home wherever she went. She usually interested herself in the work of the ladies societies as well as in the regular services of worship.

She has experienced a great deal of suffering during the past 25 years. For several years she has suffered a great deal from arthritis. Late in March she had an attack of influenza which later was broken, but she lacked the vitality to rally from it. She died last Sunday afternoon on her 46th wedding anniversary.

She leaves her husband; one son, Frank R. Beddow, who has been with her since last October; and one grandson, Frank R. Beddow, Jr., is serving in the 215th Coast Artillery in California. She is also survived by three brothers, Charles, Bruce and Frank Brown; and by one sister, Mrs. Ida Knee, all living in this vicinity. And there are also a number of nieces and nephews who, with their families, survive her.

She was buried from the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. Floyd R. Maynard based his sermon upon the requested text found in Matthew XIII.28. Mrs. John Blaker and Mrs. Clarke Shaffer sang "In the Garden" and "I am Going Home." Miss Edith Merten presided at the piano. Burial was made in the Brown cemetery a mile north of town.
