Funeral services for Floyd C. Oelke, 44, were held at St. Joseph church at 9:30 o'clock on Friday morning, April 30. The Rev. B. H. Skahill and the Rev. D. T. Noonan of Volga City officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph cemetery.
Mr. Oelke died at the University hospital in Iowa City, Tuesday, April 27, 1948, following an illness of two years.
Floyd Charles Oelke was born at Farmersburg, Iowa, July 08, 1903, the son of Henry and Tress Oelke. He attended the Farmersburg and Elkader high schools and the Business college at Cedar Rapids.
On April 16, 1930 at Elkader, he was married to Cecile Dinan.
For a number of years he operated a Dry Cleaning establishment in Elkader. Later they moved to Waterloo where he was employed with the Rath Packing Company. For the past three years they have lived in Independence where he served as a salesman for the Jewel Tea company until ill health prevented.
He was a member of the Catholic church at Independence.
He is survived by his wife and one son Jack at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Oelke, Farmersburg, also a twin brother, Lloyd of Garnavillo, and a brother Leslie and sister, Mrs. Elmer (Marguerite) Bente, both of Elkader.
Pallbearers were: J. B. Donlon, Martin Penneton, Albert Geno, Ed Burlingame Jr., James Connell, and Harold Jewell.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Jake Wadell, Mrs. Mabel Englehart, Springville, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Sid Ramsey, Bert Mathews, Oelwein; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Looby and family, Luana; Mr. and Mrs. Arno Oelke, Mrs. Mary Bruns, Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Oelke and family, Monona; Mr. and Mrs. Helmuth Oelke, Farmersburg; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Fischer and Meder Dinan, Moravia, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Wright, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. John McTaggart, Mrs. Clara Dittmer, Strawberry Point; and Mr. and Mrs. Edwards, Chicago, Illinois.
