Elkader Register, Thur., 10 Aug. 1905.

Jacob Elzy Hansel, son of Wm. and Maria Hansel, was born Sept. 6th, 1876, at Osterdock, Ia., at which place he grew to manhood, learning and working at several different trades. He was united in marriage to Anna M. Sparks Oct. 1, 1901, and to this union two children were born.

Always of a fun loving disposition, he was a favorite among the young people, as being an sportsman. He was honorable and upright in business transactions and very industrious, not being afraid to undertake any piece of work. He was of a very rugged constitution, but disease seized upon his vitals and seemed to baffle all medical skill, he being under the care of several prominent physicians during his sickness. November, 1904, he first became an invalid and was a great sufferer for several months. During his later illness he became converted and said if it were God's will, he was not afraid to die. June 6th he was taken to Finley Hospital at Dubuque, at which place he underwent an operation from which he seemed to recover and rallied for a time, but God's way is not our way. Saturday, July 29th, he was removed to the home of his uncle, Wm. White, of East Dubuque, where all that could be done by loving hands helped to soothe his last hours, and at 1:20 p.m., Aug. 1st, the soul passed to the great beyond, from which no traveler ever returns. The body was shipped to the home at Osterdock, where the funeral services were held, Rev. Tyrrel officiating. Interment was at Bethel cemetery under the auspices of I.O.O.F. and D. of R. lodges, of which he was a member. Many flowers were sent and a large concourse of people gathered to pay their last tribute to a friend and brother.

He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and children, mother, brother and two sisters, and numerous relatives and friends.
