Backhaus - Kelpien marriage - 1954

BACKHAUS, KELPIEN, WHITMAN

Miss Heen June Kelpien, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kelpien of Elkader, became the bride of Harlan L. Backhaus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Backhaus of Guttenberg, Feb. 20. The ceremony took place at the Zion's Lutheran church at Clayton Center with the Rev. John Zerhusen officiating. Attending the new couple were Mrs. Maurice Whitman of Marion, Iowa, a sister of the bride, and Delmar Backhaus of Guttenberg, Iowa, brother of the groom.

Following a week's wedding trip to the south, the couple will be at home on the bride's parents' farm near Elkader.
