Rhomberg - Donlon marriage - 1956

The St. Joseph's church at Elkader was the setting Saturday for the wedding of Miss Barbara Donlon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Donlon of Elkader, to Joseph A. Rhomberg of Elkader, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Rhomberg of 158 Hill Street, Dubuque, Iowa. The Rev. Thomas Rhomberg, brother of the groom, officiated. Present in the Sanctuary during the ceremony were the Rev. Luke Donlon of Monona, the Rev. Francis P. Friedl of Loras College, Dubuque, and Monsignor Daniel A. Gorman and the Rev. Cletus Hawes of Elkader. Miss Mary Rhomberg of Chicago, sister of the groom, was maid of honor, and Miss Mary Ann Sloan of Dubuque, a cousin of the bride, was the bridesmaid. The maid of honor and bridesmaid carried baskets of white stock, blue delphiniums, pink asters and white daisies. The same baskets were carried in the bridal processions of the bride's aunt, Mrs. Amy Jo McDonnell, and her great aunt, Mrs. Lucy Stringer Singleton. Miss Linda Donlon, sister of the bride, was the junior bridesmaid. Jay Powell, the god-child of the bride, was the ring bearer. Patrick Donlon, brother of the bride, was the best man, and William Rhomberg of Dubuque, brother of the groom, acted as groomsman

At the reception, hostesses were Mrs. Amy Jo McDonnell of Clinton, aunt of the bride, and Miss Pat Hyde of Elkader. A buffet dinner was given at the Donlon home for immediate relatives and friends following the reception.

Mrs. Rhomberg attended the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minn., and was affiliating as a student nurse at St. Mary's hospital in Rochester, Minn. Mr. Rhomberg is a graduate of Loras college in Dubuque. He owns the International Harvester agency and has been in business in Elkader since 1952.

After a wedding trip to Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Rhomberg will be at home on River Road in Elkader.
