Charles Thompson and Irene Doris Herrig were married on 16 February 1916 in Spencer, Clay, Iowa according to Clay County Marriage Records.
Children:
Charles Dale Thompson was born 11 Sept 1917
Gene Ray Thompson was born 2 June 1919
Charlene Herrig Thompson was born 15 March 1921.They are all deceased, according to the following obituary for Dale Thompson from the Sioux City Journal (Iowa) on January 11, 1999:
SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa - Dale Thompson, 81, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Sloan, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at a local hospital. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church at Spirit Lake, with the Rev. James Stiles officiating. Burial will be in Spirit Lake Memory Gardens. Turner Funeral Home of Spirit Lake is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Charles Dale Thompson was born Sept. 11, 1917, at Dickens, Iowa, to Charley and Irene (Herrig) Thompson. Following high school graduation, he received a bachelor's degree from Buena Vista College in 1939. He also attended graduate classes at Boulder, Colo., Wayne State College, University of South Dakota, Iowa State University, and South Dakota State University. He married Alta Claire "Ollie" Harrison on March 30, 1944, at San Francisco, Calif., while he was in the U.S. Coast Guard. The couple made their home in Sloan. He taught and coached at Sloan Consolidated Schools, and later taught math in the Sioux City public school system. The couple retired to the Lake area in 1980. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Spirit Lake, and was the General Chairman of Ushers for the Methodist Camp Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and served a as leader in the Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Terrie and Tim Jeffery of Madison, Wis., Barb and John Olesen of Plano, Texas; a son and his wife, Dennis and Becky of Albuquerque, N.M.; and 12 grandchildren, Shawn, Mario and Ryan Jeffery, Ozzie, Darlys, Jennifer, Julie, and Tom Olesen, Courtney, Allie, Andy, and Zach. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gene, and a sister, Charlene Stolley.
