A life remembered…..

Diane Lou Vande Steeg was born September 15th, 1934, in Spencer, IA. to John and Sibyl Taylor Mattlin. Diane graduated from Spencer High School and Northwestern Junior College in Orange City, IA.

On December 28th, 1954, Diane Lou Mattlin was united in marriage to John M. Vande Steeg and are the proud parents of two married sons. During John’s tour of duty in the Navy, Diane taught for one year at Gillett Grove as a first-grade teacher and then joined her husband in Hawaii where they lived for two years. Later they settled in Iowa and lived in Muscatine, Jefferson, Urbandale, and Clive.

Music was always a part of Diane’s life. She accompanied many choral groups while teaching, directed the children’s choir in her church, and later during retirement was a charter member of a Sunland Springs Village choir in Mesa, AZ.

She was active as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, giving presentations at businesses and schools, and she also worked at Terrace Hill in Des Moines. She was a member of the Music Club and PEO.

Diane loved to travel, especially to the many National Parks and did so often with her children and in retirement with her husband in their motor home. She enjoyed reading, hiking, and playing golf.

Diane was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She was blessed with a good long life, a strong faith, and a happy family. She asked for nothing more.

Surviving are sons Steven (Janice) of Bermuda Dunes, CA, and David (Julie) of Pella, IA.; grandchildren, Kelsey of Winter Haven, FL, and Davis of Palm Bay, FL; and sister, Janeen Paulsen of Acworth, GA. Diane was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

There will be a Celebration of Life service for Diane from 2-4 p.m. on December 6th at The Bridge church in Johnston, IA. (10025 NW 62nd Ave.).

The family respectfully requests no flowers.

Cards can be sent to Dave Vande Steeg at 26 Eastwood St., Pella, IA 50219
