William Spence, Sr., 73, of Spencer died Sunday, August 15 at the Veteran's Hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Funeral services are today at 10:30 a.m. at Warner Chapel, Spencer, with the Rev. Don Burket officiating

Casket bearers are all his grandchildren; Brian Trierweiler, Tony Trierweiler, Clint Trierweiler, Rhonda Spence, Michelle Spence, Russell Spence, Michael Spence and Jamie Spence

Military services will be conducted by Glen Pedersen Post No. 1 of the American Legion

Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Spencer, with Warner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements

William Russell Spence was born October 13, 1919 in Spencer. His childhood years were spent in the Spencer community where he received his early education.

Following his education, Mr. Spence entered the military in 1941. He served in the Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern France Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. For his service he was awarded the American Defense Service Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Silver Battle Star and six overseas Service Bars. Following his discharge in 1945, he returned to Spencer.

On June 22, 1943, he married Rosaleen Mary Gribben in England. Throughout their marriage they made their home in Spencer. Mr. Spence began working as a mechanic at Asher Motors in 1953 and remained there until retiring in 1987. He was a member of American Legion Glen Pedersen Post No. 1 and the Eagles

Mr. Spence was preceded in death by his wife.

He is survived by two sons and their wives; William Jr. and Judy of Spencer and Edward and Diane of Cherokee; one daughter, Lucy Trierweiler of Greenville; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren
