Francis "Frank" Joseph Petska was born April 10, 1940 to Lumir and Nellie Petska in Omaha, NE. Frank passed away at his home in Spencer, IA on Wednesday, October 17, 2018.

Frank was raised in Nebraska and graduated from Central High in Omaha. Needless to say, he was a CORNHUSKER fan, which he toted very proudly.

Frank had a passion for life which included helping others. He worked as a counselor for over 30 years helping others. Once he retired from this profession, he served as City Council member for the last 6 years. Frank loved being of service to the Spencer community in this capacity.

One of the things Frank enjoyed was a Firemen’s Pancake Feed and any potluck. He enjoyed in engaging in a good conversation over lots of coffee. He provided conversation and humor while serving up mini-donuts and smoothies from his concession stand for 20 years. Frank never met a stranger, any and all were always welcome.

In his free time he enjoyed bicycling, which included numerous years on RAGBRAI and a trip across the United States in 1995 with Jan and Andrea.

June was always a trip the College World Series Baseball Games in Omaha. In Frank’s opinion “Rosenblatt Stadium” was the Best Place To Play Ball.

One of his favorite places was the Niobrara River. He went tubing and kayaking with family members and felt safe, as the river at the deepest part was only waist deep, many places only knee deep. “Frank couldn’t swim”!

Frank is survived by his wife Janet of almost 39 years. Daughters: Pam Hyatt and Nancy Kaminsky of California; Sheila Gable Petska of Minnesota; Katie Clark of Oklahoma; Traci Hintz of Spencer, IA; Andrea Petska of Cincinnati, OH and son, Gary Gable of Omaha, NE. Frank also has two sisters: Barbara Power of Colorado and Katherine Rickards of Missouri.

All of Frank’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him. He loved each and every one of them. They were always a topic of conversation to whomever would listen. They in turn provided Frank with many hours of enjoyment and many laughs over the years.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Angela Petska and son, Francis K. Petska.

He had a host of coffee drinking friends for over 41 years. Frank’s faith was important to him; along with being of service to others.
