James Culp died quite suddenly Friday night at 10 o’clock of heart trouble. He had been away the day before and it was not known he was sick. The deceased was fifty-six years old. He was born in slavery in Randolph county, Missouri, and remained in slavery until the war of ’61.

Mr. Culp was a member of he Salvation Army for ten or twelve years. He had lived in Osceola the past twenty-one years and was a hard-working, peaceable man. He leaves a wife, Octavo, and a step-daughter Mrs. Prince, of Coin, who attended the funeral.

Coin is in Page County, Iowa
