Rev. John Clark

Died At Chariton Friday; Was
Woodburn Methodist Minister

Rev. John Elmer Clark retired Methodist minister and a life long resident of Clarke county, died at the Lucas County Hospital Friday. He was 89 years old.

The Rev. Clark was born in Lucas county on January 5, 1876. His father, also a minister was the Rev. M. S. Clark, his mother, Teresa Ann Elmore Clark. He grew to manhood in Clarke county and obtained his education here.

On April 30, 1899, he was married to Ella Jane Robey at Woodburn. They had three children who survive their parents.

Rev. Clark served pulpits in Davis City, Kellerton, Russell, Bridgewater, Keokuk, Cantril, Derby, and Woodburn. He retired from the ministry about 16 years ago.

Survivors include a son and two daughters; L. Thurman Clark of Des Moines, Mrs. Mildred Dorn of Burlington and Mae Clark also of Burlington; seven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; a brother, S. M. Clark of Chariton and a sister Mrs. Lillian Marker of Des Moines.

Services were held at the Methodist church in Woodburn, Sunday afternoon with Dr. Walter Scheuerman of Des Moines officiating. Burial, under the direction of Webster Funeral Home, was in Woodburn cemetery.
