Harley Raymond Hale, 97 of Osceola, died, Sunday, December 7, 2008 at the Osceola Nursing and Rehab Center in Osceola. Funeral service will be 1:30 PM, Thursday, December 11, 2008 at the Osceola United Methodist Church. Open visitation will be on Wednesday until 7:00 PM at Kale Funeral Home, the family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to services on Thursday. Interment will be in the Murray Cemetery.

Harley, son of Charles and Iona (Smith) Hale, was born November 24, 1911 near Murray, Iowa. He attended Hopeville schools and graduated from Osceola High School. On April 21, 1935 he married Helen Fenn in Murray and two children blessed this union, Merlin and Marilyn.

Harley was a farmer south of Murray for many years during which time he was on the local school board and active in the Murray United Methodist Church. A few years were spent in Arvada, Colorado, where he was a real estate and car salesman. Upon returning to Iowa he became a business owner first in Murray and then Osceola. Most recently he was a member of the Osceola United Methodist Church.

Harley enjoyed playing pool and in earlier years enjoyed hunting. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his honesty.

He is survived by his wife, son and daughter-in-law, Merlin and Peggy Hale of Council Bluffs, IA; daughter, Marilyn Murphy of Erie, Illinois; grandchildren, Kristina Purdy, Leah Gwinner, Steven Hale and Michael Murphy; and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in by his parents, brother Olin, sister Eva Wetzel and son-in-law, Richard Murphy.

Memorials:

Memorial contributions may be made to his family for a memorial that has been established.

Visitation:

Family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the church
