MASON CITY - Beulah M. Kupka, 87, of Mason City, died Sunday (Nov. 6, 2005) at Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Harry Koelker officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a Scriptural prayer service being held at 6 p.m. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph's Catholic Church or Heritage Care Center.

Beulah was born on May 16, 1918, in Waterloo, the daughter of William and Mathilda (Shuster) Sharp. She attended school in Waterloo and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1936. Beulah then attended St. Anthony's Nursing School in Carroll and graduated as a registered nurse in 1940. She began working as a public health nurse in Waterloo and continued to do so for 18 years.

Beulah was united in marriage to William D. Kupka on Oct. 22, 1952, in Waterloo. Beulah and William lived in Waterloo for a short time after they were married, and then moved to Des Moines.

During the 13 years they lived in Des Moines, Beulah worked for the Central Iowa Blood Bank for five years. They then moved to Mason City in 1971 where Beulah and William have lived for 34 years.

Beulah was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where she served on a church circle.

She enjoyed painting, was an avid reader of the newspaper and enjoyed watching wildlife, especially cardinals. Family was at the center of her life, she enjoyed traveling with her family and most of all loved to dote on her grandchildren. Beulah and William spent a great deal of time at their cabin in Lansing, Iowa, where they would fish and spend time outdoors.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, William, of Mason City; daughter, Patty Cole and husband, Kevin, and their children, Brian, Michael and Daniel all of Bloomington, Minn.; brother, Don Sharp of Phoenix, Ariz.; and sister-in-law, Lea Sharp, of Waterloo.

Beulah was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Roger Sharp.
