Mason City - Vernon 'Vern' H. Mix, 85, of 1037 19th St. S.W., Mason City, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at the I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, with Rev. Jeff Dahlin of Praise Community Church officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City with military honors provided by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Family suggests memorials to Vernon H. Mix Memorial fund.

Vern was born July 17, 1926, in Jackson, Minn., the son of Harry and Anna (Egge) Mix. He later moved to the Mason City area.

Vern enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Ingersoll (Destroyer DD 652) as a cook second class during WWII. Following the service he moved back to Mason City. He married Phyllis J. Rose Sept. 4, 1952, in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Vern was an ironworker and was a member of Ironworkers Local No. 67 from 1953-1981.

Vern enjoyed spending time on their house boat, Clear Lake, being with friends and family, but most of all being with his companion and loving wife, Phyllis.

He was a member of Mason City V.F.W. and Ironworkers Local No. 67.

Vern is survived by his four children: Steven Mix, Isle, Minn., David (Kate) Mix, Cedar Falls, and their children Madison and McKayla Mix, Lori Stoltenberg, Mason City, and her children Sommer Stoltenberg (Cody Black) and Brock Stoltenberg, Diana (Merle) Klipping, Mason City, and their daughter Chloe Klipping; daughter-in-law Mona Hoy, Mason City, and her children Ryan Mix and Rhea (B.J.) Anderson and their children Evan and Ehren Anderson and Taylor Ott; son-in-law Steve Stoltenberg, Rochester, Minn.; two sisters: Beverly (Earl) Cornelius, Des Moines, and Norma Jean, Mason City; and in-laws Mina Mix, Armstrong, Tom (Pam) Rose, Mason City, Betty Dahl, Manly, and Janice Rose, Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Larry Mix; wife, Phyllis, in 2003; brother Gordon Mix; two sisters: Alvina Kingsbury and Lucille Vestal; and infant son Randy Mix.
