Funeral services for Donald A. Schroeder, 64, Clarence, were held March 10, 1997 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence, with the Rev. Rodney Slessor officiating. Mrs. Robert Hasselbusch was the organist and pallbearers were Robert Schroeder, Kenneth Huesmann, Jerry Goldsmith, Roger Gritton, Lavern Schwien and Dale Schlueter. Honorary pallbearers were James Bixler and Dennis Ruther. Burial was in the Durant cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by American Legon Post No. 286 of Clarence.

Mr. Schroeder died March 5 at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a heart attack at his home March 2.

The son of William and Wilma Goldsmith Schroeder, he was born June 23, 1932 in rural Clarence. He graduated from Clarence high school in 1951. He married Shirley Petersen Dec. 10, 1960 in Clarence.

Mr. Schroeder was a farmer.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and American Legion Post No. 286, where he formerly served as commander and chaplain.

Mr. Schroeder enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by his wife; 2 daughters, Wendy and husband Dale Johnson, Clarence; and Cathy and husband Monty Ohrt, West Branch; 3 grandchildren, Christy and Alan Ohrt, and Heather Johnson; and his mother-in-law, Norma Petersen, Durant. He was also survived by a brother, Dale Schroeder, Clarence, who died Sunday March 9.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
