Funeral services for George E. Meier, 95, Clarence, will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, March 5 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence, with the Rev. Rodney Slessor officiating. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery.
Mr. Meier died March 3 at the Mechanicsville Care Center, following a long illness. He had been a resident for 3 years.
The son of Dietrich and Helen Tonne Meier, he was born Oct. 31, 1901 in Cedar county. He married Dorothy Doermann Feb. 11, 1934 in Lowden.
Mr. Meier was a retired farmer. After moving to town he did carpentry and furnace work.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and a former member of the Clarence fire department. He was a former Clarence Outstanding Senior Citizen and former school bus driver. He enjoyed the farm and horses.
Mr. Meier is survived by his wife; 2 sisters, Leona Banks, Clarence and Milda Ekdahl, Ft. Dodge; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
