Funeral services for Geraldine Abagail Merritt, 81, Tipton, were held Feb. 21, 1997 at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, with the Rev. DeLane Wright officiating. Pallbearers were Glenn Fear, Prentice York, Franklin Gault and Don Maher. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mrs. Merritt died Feb. 19 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton from complications of pneumonia.

The daughter of Herbert and Maude Michaels Leatherberry, she was born March 5, 1915. She graduated from Tipton high school in 1932 and then attended Tipton Junior College. She married Owen LeRoy Merritt Oct. 3, 1933 in Cedar Rapids.

Mrs. Merritt was a homemaker.

She attended the Tipton United Methodist church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a past member of the Tipton Moose Lodge.

Mrs. Merritt is survived by a son, Duane Merritt, Bettendorf; and a stepbrother, William Leatherberry, California. She was preceded in death by her husband Oct. 24, 1971 and a son, Dale Merritt, Nov. 6, 1987.

A memorial has been established for the Tipton United Methodist church.
