Funeral services for Clute Marion Bowman, 92, a native of Downey, were held at St. Louis Catholic church, Engelwood, Colo. March 2 with burial with military honors at Ft. Logan National cemetery, Denver. Mr. Bowman died in Littleton, Colo. Feb. 29.

The son of Joseph S. and Phebe Schenck Bowman, he was born at Downey in 1894 and attended the Downey school. He married Loretto Butler at St. Joseph Catholic church, West Liberty, April 20, 1922. The couple farmed south of Downey for 40 years, moving to Westminster, Colo. in 1980.

In May, 1915, he enlisted in the First Iowa Cavalry. A year later, riding their own horses, the Iowa cavalrymen were activated for duty on the Mexican border.

Shorty after its return to Iowa, the First Iowa Cavalry was recalled for duty as part of the 34th Division which served in France during World War I. Before going overseas the Iowa Cavalry was converted to a horse-drawn ammunition train. He was discharged in 1919.

Mr. Bowman joined the American Legion, shortly after its founding and was a member for nearly 70 years. He was a member of the Leyden-Chiles-Wickersham Post #1. He was a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic church, Englewood, Colo.

He is survived by his wife: a son, Edward J., Denver; a daughter, Nanette Cavanagh, Littleton; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
