Funeral services for Mrs. Bret (Hazel) Mathews, 91, were held at the Horner Funeral Home, Mechanicsville, Dec. 22 with the Rev. Jaymee Glenn Burns officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery. Pallbearers were John C., Don J. and William M. Hoy, Bret C. and David M. Mathews and Thomas Walshire. Francis Robinson was organist.

Mrs. Mathew died at the Mechanicsville Care center Dec. 19.

The daughter of George and Amanda Peirson Wierengo, she was born at Muskegon, Mich. Sept. 2, 1895. She was married to Bret Coleman Mathews at her parents' home in Mechanicsville Feb. 18, 1920.

She moved to Mechanicsville with her parents when she was 15 and lived in the Mechanicsville, Tipton and Stanwood areas. She was an active member of the Presbyterian church.

She is survived by 2 sons, Thomas, Phoenix, Ariz. and Robert, Waterloo; a daughter, Elaine Hoy, Mechanicsville; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant daughter.
