Graveside services for Paul Gardner, 86, were held at the Tipton Masonic cemetery Dec. 19 with the Rev. Ed Peterson officiating. Mr. Gardner died at his winter home in Sun City, Ariz. Dec. 16.

The son of Alfred and Katherine Anne Gardner, he was born at Atlantic Oct. 6, 1900. He was educated in the Atlantic schools. Mr. Gardner was married to Edith Mary Walker at Davenport June 5, 1920.

A retired farmer, he had lived in the Tipton area for 35 years.

He was president of P & E.M. Gardner Corp., a member of the Cedar County Farm Bureau, a past member of the American Legion at Davenport and was a member of the World War I Barracks.

A veteran of World War I, he entered service April 25, 1918 and was discharged June 28, 1919. He served overseas from August, 1918 to June 1919 as a member with Battery F., 80th Field Artillery of the American Expeditionary Force.

He is survived by his wife; 2 daughters, Edith E. Micklewright and Jeanne E. Jehring, Phoenix, Ariz.; 2 sons, Paul J. and Robert D., Davenport; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and a sister, Ruth Jensen, Atlantic.

He was preceded in death by a son, a sister and 3 brothers.
