Funeral services for Pogue C. Sherrill, 71, Iowa City, were held at the Sheets and Son funeral home May 7 with the Rev. Richard C. Quinlan officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Curtis Chapman, Jim Crock, Gary and Michael Beuter, Darold Westphal and Don Lamp. Mrs. Kenneth Gould was organist and Mrs. Don Hipple was vocalist.

Mrs. Sherrill died at Veterans hospital, Iowa City, May 4 following an extended illness.

The son of the Rev. Albert and Mintie Rodgers Sherrill, he was born at Leaksville, N.C. Jan. 22, 1908 and graduated from the Greensboro, N.C. high school. He attended the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Md.

He was married to Bette Michels at Washington, Iowa March 30, 1948.

A manufacturer's representative in Cincinnati, Ohio for 25 years, he was a Tipton resident from 1972 to 1978. He had lived at 1105 Pine street, Iowa City, since September, 1978.

He was a member of Linwood Lodge No. 577 AF&AM, Cincinnati and a member of the Methodist church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the army.

Mr. Sherrill is survived by his wife, Bette, Iowa City; 3 sisters, Mrs. Rollin (Esther) Gibbs, Statesville, N.C.; Mrs. Mary Stough, Charlotte, N.C.; Mrs. Ruth Whitener, Stanley, N.C. and a brother, Albert T., Greensborough, N.C.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers.
