Mrs. Jessie Bruff
Dies Last Night;
Ill Some Months

Widow of J. B. Bruff Follows
Husband in Death by Few
Months. Native of
Maine.

Mrs. Jessie Anna Cartland Bruff, well known local lady, widow of the late J. B. Bruff who died here last May 30, followed her husband in death yesterday evening at 6:30 after an illness of some months with complications. Mrs. Bruff suffered a paralytic stroke more than six months ago and had been in failing health since that time, although she showed considerable improvement at times.

Here Many Years.

She was born in Parsonfield, Me., Oct. 2, 1854. After their marriage at West Branch, Ia., forty-five years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Bruff moved to this city, where Mr. Bruff was engaged in the law business. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Bruff was instructor in the schools at West Branch.

She is survived by three sons, Joe C. Bruff of this city, J. Russell Bruff of Santa Ana, Calif., and William C. Bruff of Whittier, Calif., and two daughters, Mrs. A. R. Fletcher of Torreon, Mex., and Mrs. H. R. Hinshow of Alta, Ia. One brother, L. H. Conklin of Lewiston, Me., and four sisters also survive. The sisters are Marie C. Goddard of Three Rivers, Mass., Nettie M. Marr of Auburn, Me., Mrs. H. T. Maxwell of Milbury, Mass., and Susan B. S. Jones of South China, Me.

Active in Social Work.

Mrs. Bruff was one of the oldest members of the Atlantic Ladies' Literary club and was also an active worker in the local Congregational church.

The body will lie in state at the Osborne-Tomlinson funeral parlors this afternoon and tomorrow morning, where friends may call. The casket will be opened at the church also. Funeral services are to be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 at the Congregational church, the Rev. George D. Rogers officiating. Interment will be made in the Atlantic cemetery.
