MRS. EMILY ROSE SPRY
Obituary of a Well Known Lady Who
Recently Passed Away in Benton
Township.

Emily Rose Lambert was born April 9, 1840, in Knox county, Ohio, was married to Elias Spry August 22, 1856, to which union eleven children were born, ten of whom are still living to mourn with the husband and father the loss of a loving wife and a dear mother. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1855 at age of fifteen and was a faithful member through life. She was taken sick December 10, 1904, was sick over six months, died May 20, 1905, aged sixty-five years, one month and eleven days. Her sickness was a complication of heart, stomach and lung trouble. Mr. and Mrs. Spry were pioneers, having come to this state thirty-eight years ago. They came from Ohio in the fall of 1860, coming to Illinois, and from there to Appanoose county, Iowa, and then to Cass county in the spring of 1868 and built the house where they have reared this family and earned the love and respect of every one who knew them and from where she finally went to her last rest, followed by the sorrowing family and many loving friends. She was a member of the Ladies of the G. A. R., many of whom came to sorrow with us and follow her to the grave. The funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. Dean of the M. E. church of Wiota. She was laid to rest in the family lot at the Bowen cemetery. Pall-bearers were members of the Sam Rice Post No. 6.
