Atlantic Telegraph, Aug. 14, 1878, pg. 3:
ACCIDENT.--A little son of John Peterson, aged about three years, got in the way of the cars, as they were being switched Monday evening, and one ponderous wheel passed over its leg near the body. The little fellow died last evening from the injuries received. As there are slightly conflicting statements about how the child came to be on the track, we will not attempt to give either one. The mother reached the child but a moment too late to save him. The child's father is in the employ of the railroad company, belonging to the construction train.
