OBITUARY
David Perry Devers was born in Cass County, Ohio, on February 29, 1856, and passed away at his home in Nodaway, January 25, 1933, at the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 26 days.

When just a small boy his mother was called to her heavenly home, leaving him with the father, four brothers and three sisters.

At the age of 13 the family came to Villisca, Iowa, where he grew to manhood, and was numbered among the early settlers.

On September 11, 1877, he was united in marriage to Dora E. Dillon. To this union eleven chldren were born, 10 girls, Vina B. Gourley of Haigler, Nebr., Dollie Acton and Abbie Gindelsperger, both of Nodaway; Gertie Kernen of Carbon; Jessie Todd of Zanesville, Ohio; Rose Conway of Creston; Myrtle Langloss of Clarinda; Iva Stidd of Harlem, Mont; Hazel Weed of Imogene; Ida at home, and one son, David Willard of Brooks.

He leaves to mourn his lovable companion and children, 39 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sam, of Kelso, Wash., and Frank, address unknown, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Devers was a devoted husband and a kind father, loved his home and lived a life so well that he will be missed, not only by his loved ones, but by all who knew him.

The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church Friday afternoon, January 27, 1933, at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by a former pastor, Rev. Silas Overholser of Woodbine, Iowa, assisted by Rev. Wayne Emry and Rev. Loomis Lee, pastors of the Nodaway churches.

A double quartet composed of Supt. J.H. Watson, Leon Rider, Virgil Anderson, Roy Held, Dean Watts, Howard Grummon, Forest Means and Martin Taylor, sang three beautiful selections, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", "Jesus Included Me", and "Nearer My God to Thee", with Rev. Emry at the piano.

The pall bearers were Frank Conway, Joe Mason, Charles Watts, Marshall Norcutt, Frank Kennedy and Charlie Woods, intimate friends of Mr. Devers.

The body was laid to rest in the family lot in the Nodaway cemetery.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral, besides the children, were John Blankenship and daughter, Lucile, and Wallie Mattice, all of Rockport, Mo.; Mrs. Della Balding, Mrs. Lester Balding of Atlantic, Iowa, the latter two being close friends of the family.
