Atlantic Daily Telegraph, Monday, October 30, 1882, page 4:
One of the pioneer settlers of Cass county, Jefferson Goodale, died at his home in Pymosa Township, on yesterday, (Sunday, Oct. 29), at an advanced age, being in his 80th year. He had suffered many months with a cancer. The deceased settled on the beautiful estate which he leaves, in 1853. He leaves several sons and daughters, all grown to the years of maturity and married. One daughter is the wife of Mr. H. C. Johnson, who was for many years the editor and proprietor of the Messenger . The funeral was held this afternoon, Rev. E. S. Hill officiating.
