Obituary.

The funeral services of Mrs. Aldah A. Franklin at Buck Creek church at 1 p. m. on the 17th was attended by a large concourse of people. L. P. Starr of Stuart, who was well known in youth in this vicinity, studied for the ministry at Battle Creek three years, and is now president of Board of Control of Sanitarium at Des Moines, delivered the address in an appropriate manner which was highly appreciated by the many listeners. Rev. Harwood pastor M.E. church opened and closed in a touching tribute to the deceased.

Mrs. Aldah Smith stood high in this vicinity, respected by all who knew her, a model wife and mother, pleasant and agreeable, always looking on the bright side, kind and attentive to the sick. She will be greatly missed by the family circle, by all that knew her. The floral decorations in commemoration of the past life of the departed one were elaborate and beautiful.

Aldah A. Franklin was born in Johnson county, Iowa, Nov. 24, 1853. When 16 years old, she, with her mother, three sisters and three brothers came to this county, where she has since spent her life. On June 7th, 1874 she was united in marriage to Thomas G. Smith and to this union nine children were born two of which died in Infancy and seven who are left with the bereaved husband, three sisters and three brothers to mourn the lose of a faithful wife, devoted mother and loving sister.

When twenty years old she gave her heart to Christ and since lived a consistent Christian life, showing by her, life a true faith in what she did, full of good works and kindness for friends and loved ones. Her brothers, L. Franklin of Creston, William of Greenfield and Sterling of Atlantic and Mrs. Sarah Douglas of Atlantic were present. Mrs. Robie Parson of Eaton, Colo, and Mrs. Mary Huffman of Iowa City were unable to be present. Of tbe children, tbe oldest daughter has, for the past three years been a licensed Deaconess in the M. E. church located at Denver, Colo, and was working as visiting Deaconess when summoned to the last call of mother. The second daughter Mrs. Roy Herbert lives near by. The five sons all of high moral attainments and studious habits, honest and industrious were all at the home fireside.
