Another case of mail order courtship
has come to an untimely end,
this time the victim lives near Anita.
It seems that several months
ago Dave McDermott answered a
matrimonial ad and a correspondence
followed which ended in
matrimony. Sixteen hours after
the wedding the woman asked for
a divorce and $15,000 alimony.
Evidence showed that three months
before she had been living with a
man in Long Beae(c)h, California, and
representing herself as the man's
wife. The court annulled the marriage
on the ground of fraud and
the woman failed to secure any of
McDermott's property.

Note: Parents of David Henry McDermott (1866-1942) were Henry McDermott and Elizebeth Miller. David's first wife was Rosa G. Sisler (1868-1907). The Iowa marriage records show his mail order bride to be Mildred T. Stevens, married October 23, 1919 in Des Moines.
