Donnette Lynn (Austin) Groeneveld, age 62, formerly of Clarksville, Iowa was born on November 4, 1962, the daughter of Sandy Austin in Waverly, Iowa. She attended Clarksville High School.

Through the years Donnette lived and worked in the Clarksville area. She primarily worked as a cook, where she enjoyed getting to know the customers at Doc’s Tap in Clarksville and Klink’s in Shell Rock. She also worked at the Shell Rock Nursing Home, in housekeeping, where she enjoyed interacting with residents.

Donnette had a bold personality and zest for life. She enjoyed collecting wine glasses, traveling and taking spontaneous day trips with her friends and family. Even more, Donnette loved attending Kid Rock’s concerts and collecting all his merch. She loved her family fiercely and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, making all of those special moments and memories.

Donnette passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at her home in Allison, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sandy Austin; her grandparents, Frank and Marian Austin; and one niece, Casie Hovenga.

Donnette is survived by two sons, Nathan (Jen Green) Hovenga of Allison, and Jesse Smoot of Clarksville; five grandchildren, Jasen Hovenga of Traer, Keaton Vance of Allison, and Braxson, Abrum and Myla Smoot of Clarksville; one sister, Nichole Austin of Allison; niece and nephews, Collon Hovenga, Austin and Bailey Sue Green; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and a life-long best friend, Tracy “Tray-Rae” Hinders.

The family will be having a Celebration of Life at a later date.
