Gary Dean Lumley, age 87, of Urbandale, Iowa, formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of DeLos Lumley and Marian (Wallbaum) Lumley on January 19, 1938 in Parkersburg, Iowa. He made his home with his maternal grandparents, August and Carrie (Rottmeyer) Wallbaum in Parkersburg, Iowa. Gary was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Gary was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and served in the Iowa Army National Guard for six years. He was honorably discharged on December 5, 1966. He was an employee of the John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo, Iowa until his retirement on April 30, 1998.
Gary was united in marriage to Marlys Jean Ulfers, and they were blessed with one daughter, Janna Marie. His kind, quiet, gentle ways will be missed by his wife, Marlys, daughter, Janna (John) Brehm, and grandson, Joseph Charles Brehm. He is also survived by his sisters, Vicki Galloway and Nancy (Dale) Boelman along with other extended family members.
Gary passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, at MercyOne in West Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his step-father, Edward Rewerts, and his sister, Sherry Lumley Schoneman.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Hope Reformed Church, with burial at the Oak Hill Cemetery, both Parkersburg, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services – Parkersburg Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Redman Funeral Home. Then they will be forwarded to the Des Moines Christian School in Urbandale, Iowa and Hope Reformed Church in Parkersburg.
